Remedial Therapy

How Does Remedial Therapy Help?

Remedial Therapy uses a clinical approach to dealing with musculoskeletal problems. The treatment highly depends on clinical findings which include, a history of the patient's complaint; observation and palpation of the patient; range of motion assessment of joint complexes; and orthopedic testing to confirm findings. A remedial massage may be gentle or strong, deep or shallow and may involve the whole body or parts of the body seen to be the root cause of dysfunction or pain. Remedial massage works on the muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia associated with a disorder. The aim is to return the tissues to a neutral state by releasing tight spasm compensatory muscles and strengthening weak inhibited muscles. This is achieved with the use of specialised techniques such as muscle energy techniques, post-isometric release techniques reciprocal inhibition and hydrotherapy (hot and cold packs). Joints complexes are mobilised with traction and compressive techniques. Remedial therapy massage specialises in treating a number of acute and chronic conditions.
